Episode 1

In a forest, a familiar forest, sits ‘The Mad Hatter’ in his domain. Sitting at the table set up for a tea party, a grand magnificent luxurious tea party. Everything is very colourful and bright, filling the atmosphere with joy and happiness. The Mad Hatter sitting at the top, observing his spread and feeling proud of himself. He’s in all green, bouncing around, excited, hyper. He looks like a cartoon character, very bold and distinctive facial features. Short and slender, very lively and energetic. Suddenly, he jumps off the table and bursts with anticipation.

Hatter: It’s almost time! She will be here soon.

Hare: Who Mad Hatter?

Hatter: Alice OF COURSE! It’s almost time.

Door mouse: Oh! It IS almost time.

Hatter: Be ready everyone! Stations! I want it all to be perfect! She will love it. My Alice

Everyone scatters to their positions, like playing a role in a play, prepared and ready. Everyone very excited and enthused. In their places stood like statues, they wait. And wait some more.

Door mouse: How long do we wait?

Hatter: Shh!

Hare: Soon I hope soon. I’m hurting.

Hatter: SHH!

They all go quiet again. And wait. Some time goes by and moral is starting to fall and so is the energy, a part from the Mad Hatter’s.

Door mouse: Uh. Uh. Ahhhh. I can’t hold it anymore.

The Door mouse relaxes, and like a domino effect so does the Hare. The Mad Hatter sees red.

Hatter: GET BACK UP! DO YOUR POSE!

Hare: But Hatter, it’s too hard.

Door Mouse: I am becoming stiff.

Hatter: I DON’T CARE! GET BACK UP GET BACK UP!

The Mad Hatter jumps down and circles them, getting more angered and getting aggressive.

Hatter: NO NO NO NO NO! This isn’t what is supposed to happen.

He starts stomping his feet, and storming back and forward.

Hatter: This isn’t supposed to happen.

Hare: Hatter yo-

Hatter: She’s supposed to be here

Door mouse: Please Hatter-

Hatter: She isn’t supposed to be this late.

The Hare and Door Mouse start to get very scared of the Mad Hatter as his aggression grows and eats away any joy and happiness there was. Mad Hatter points and the Hare

Hatter: WHY ISN’T SHE HERE?!

Hare: I don-

Hatter: WHERE IS SHE?! WHERE IS SHE?! THIS IS ALL WRONG! ALL WRONG.

As his anger builds and builds he lashes out and smashes his cup on the table.

Hatter: No!

Quickly anger turns to sadness and realisation he’s went too far.

Hatter: This isn’t right. How did I do this? It’s not right.

The Mad Hatter frantically tries to fix the tea cup.

Hatter: I can fix this. I can fix it. It’ll be okay. She will come then.

The Hare circles him.

Hare: But will she?

Door mouse: Is Alice really coming?

Defeated the Mad Hatter slumps into his chair

Hatter: She is I swear.

Hare: You did it again Hatter.

Door mouse: Scared another one away

Hatter: I didn’t, I did it right this time.

Colours of the forest start to fade into ash, the flowers and trees slowly die and deteriorate. Everything turns grim and bleak. Beautiful rounded colours and shapes become ragged and sharp, dull and deathly. The forest floods with despair and terror. A terror of fear and loneliness. The Hare and Door mouse are now grotesque deformed creatures barely audible, demonised. This isn’t the beautiful Wonderland the Mad Hatter sought for, or craved. Depression sets into the Mad Hatter.

Hatter: She’s not coming?

Door mouse: No – Hatter – she – is not

Hare: You – are – all – alone

Door mouse: Always – alone

Hare: Friends? – People? – Love? –

Door mouse: Love – is – out of – your – reach – Hatter

Hare: You – don’t – deserve – love

Hatter: I do…

Hare: No – one – could love – you

Door mouse: No – one

Hatter: Alice?

Hare: She – will – never – come.

Door mouse: Never

Hatter: My Alice?

Door mouse: Never coming

Hare: All alone

Hatter: My Alice!

Hare: All – alone

Hatter: No…

Door mouse: All alone

Hatter: Stop!

Hare: ALL ALONE!

Hatter: Alice? Help?

Hare: Alone –

Door mouse: Alone –

Hatter: Please –

Hare and Door mouse in chant:

Alone

Alone

Alone

Alone

Alone

ALONE

ALONE

ALONE

ALONE

ALONE

ALONE

ALONE

Hatter: STOP!!! Just STOP! PLEASE –

The Mad Hatter throws his hands into his head. Beaten and overwhelmed. After some time to collect himself, he brings himself to look around. He sighs with disappointment, he’s back in his cell room. Same basic bed, basic toilet and basic sink. Nothing else. Nothing different. Everything still unwelcoming, miserable and dreary. Except his solace in the corner. His books are his relief, his passion, his life. His only bit of light in this dark, gloomy and sinister life. He looks down to see grasped in his hands his favourite book. One that he is obsessed with, infatuated with. It reads ‘Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll. He clasps it close to his chest, and settles back down to try and make the perfect dream.

Episode 4 “I’m back”

Hearing the alarms and commotion outside their cell, Ventriloquist and Scarface begin to realise something is happening.

Anna goes to the cell, leaving Scarface on the bed.

Anna: What do you thinks going on?

(someone runs past the cell, followed by several others. Then the cell gate opens.)

Anna: What the heck?

Scarface: It’s a breakout toots.

Anna: What?

Scarface: You know, people – are- breaking – ou-

Anna: I know what a breakout is –

Scarface: Then why ask.

Anna: It doesn’t matter. What do we do?

Scarface: What do you mean what we do! We leave come on. Grab the knife under the mattress.

Anna: What?

(She looks and finds a home-made crafted knife)

Where did you get this?

Scarface: I sneaked the parts from the canteen and made it.

Anna: What for?

Scarface: What for? What do you mean what for? To protect ourselves. Grab it and let’s go!

Anna grabs Scarface and the knife and begins to rush out. Trying to dodge all the fast paced maniac inmates also rushing.

Scarface: Yes!Yes! Almost there toots.

Anna has a sudden realisation and stops.

Scarface: What are you doing?! We’re almost out.

Anna: Marry me?

Scarface: What?

Anna: Please. If we don’t do it now. We never will.

Scarface: Anna this isn’t the time –

Anna: I don’t want to go back into the world unless I’m married to you.

Scarface: It’s not that simple –

Anna: I’ll do anything, I love you.

Scarface: Anything?

Anna: Of ocurse.

Scarface: I want you to make a sacrifice, to prove you love me

Anna: I’ll sacrifice anything for you!

Scarface: Good, because I want a human sacrifice.

Anna: What do you mean?

Scarface: I want you to kill someone.

Anna: What?

Scarface: Kill someone. Without me, without help. You have to kill someone all ‘g’y yourself. And you have to want to.

Anna: I don’t-

Scarface: That’s how this works. That’s what you must do.

Anna pauses and thinks for a moment. Scarface is convinced she’ll say no and they’ll be out in no time.

Anna: Okay!

Scarface: What?

Anna: I said okay.

Scarface: You have to want to, that’s the only way it’ll work.

Anna: I do.

Scarface: Say it.

Anna: I want to kill someone.

Scarface: Right, well. Let’s go then.

Anna and Scarface are now in Arkham’s chapel, at the altar. Scarface has just completed part of the martial ceremony. He explains now what Anna must do.

Anna: So now I kill someone

Scarface: And?

Anna: And pour the blood over myself to complete the sacrifice, to prove I …killed someone.

Scarface: Then?

Anna: We’re married. *sighs*

Scarface: Yes but…

Anna: Oh come back here to meet you, my husband.

Scarface: Yeah, great. Now hurry! I wanna be out of here in this lifetime okay toots!

Anna: Okay!

Scarface: Anna! The knife!

Anna: Oh Yeah.

Anna rushes out but stops halfway and faces Scarface again

Anna: I love you.

Scarface: Love you too toots.

Anna rushes down corridors to find vandalised cells, people lying dead but no sign of any people. She runs past a cell to find one of the doctors, sobbing and hiding.

Anna: Hello?

Doctor: Oh Anna! Thank God it’s you!

Anna: Why are you hiding?

Doctor: From the inmates. They began attacking people, and I just –begins sobbing

Anna: It’s okay shh.

Doctor: I was so scared! Thank god you’re okay though. Did you hide too?

Anna: Yes, I –

Doctor: Where’s the dummy you always have? Erm – Scarface?

Anna remembers why she was in here in the first place and how the doctors felt about her discussing Scarface.

Anna: He’s gone. I left him behind.

Doctor: Wow, right. Okay, we can’t stay here come on.

As they are walking cautiously, the Doctor in front and Anna behind, she has doubts as the doctor is casually talking to Anna.

Doctor: Y’know Anna, I always liked you. You were never bad, or horrible, just misled and –

The doctor’s voice begins to fade as Anna thinks. She doesn’t think she can kill him. The sound becomes muffled around her and we hear Anna’s internal thoughts as the doctor continues.

Anna: I can’t do it. He’s so nice, and wants to help me. I can’t kill him. But I’ll lose Scarface, just as we’re marrying? But I can’t. I’m not evil; I’m not bad I just can’t.

As she thinks, it soon comes to abrupt stop and she’s back in reality as she hears Scarface’s name.

Doctor: Just Scarface.

Anna: What?

The doctor stops to look at Anna behind him.

Doctor: I’m glad you’ve come to your senses about that dummy.

He continues to walk.

Doctor: It was absurd to believe he was real.

Anna whispers to herself.

Anna: He is real

Doctor: The weird obsession you had.

Anna whispering: It’s love.

Doctor: It was a psychological obsession with him, thinking that HE made you do those things, A way out of reality.

Anna *whispering* but he did, he made me do it all.

Doctor: When it was just you.

Anna: It wasn’t.

Doctor: But now you have come to terms –

Anna: *whispering* It wasn’t me-

Doctor: You can start the process to recovery

Anna: *whispering* I’m good

Doctor: And fully get better

Anna: whisper* I was good.

Doctor: And put this whole fake dummy situation behind you.

Anna launches at the doctor forcing him to the ground and begins to stab him repeatedly.

Anna: HE’S REAL! HE WAS REAL! HE MADE ME DO IT! HE IS REAL! HE LOVES ME! HE’S REAL!

Anna stops and begins to breath heavily. Something has changed in her. She pours blood onto herself and enjoys it, the slowly stands up and licks the knife. She makes her way back to the chapel.

Covered in dry blood she arrives at the chapel.

Anna: My love! I did it! We’re married…my love?

No one answers.

Anna: Scarface?

She looks for him but he is gone.

Anna: SCARFACE!?!?!

Anna runs in search for him looking in cells and corridors. She can’t find him, she rushes back to her own cell to find him lying face down. She goes to him

Anna: Scarface, why did you leav-

As she picks him up she see’s that he is broke and unanimated.

Anna: Scarface? No! Please? Talk to me!

She begins to cry, after a moment she rushes up grabbing him and runs. She runs to the kitchen area, grabbing a knife, nails and glue. As this happens, Anna’s back is facing the camera. She begins to cut half of her hair jagged and uneven. She then smashing Scarface on the ground and collects some of his wooden parts and thins them out. She begins to cut half her face and then grabs the wood gluing and nailing some parts into her face.. As she does so, she lets out an insane laughter. She slowly picks up Scarface’s bow tie and puts it on. Turning slowly around to face the camera and show her face we see half has became “Scarface”.

Scarface: I’m back.

Black out.

End.

Episode 3 – She will leave

Anna is sleeping in the bed. Scarface is prompt up against the wall facing her.

Scarface: What does she want?

Love, romance, intimacy, love?

I can’t do that crap. I don’t know how to love someone. How do you love someone?

Be nice? Bleh. Say soppy things? Yuck. Just be there? Boring.

I don’t even know what that means? Does anyone? What is it?

What does love mean? What does it mean? Love? Love.

Love – I love hurting people, I love playing jokes, and – starts to laugh – their stupid faces. Ah-aha. Idiots. It all makes me feel good. Can a person make you feel good? Does Anna make me feel good?

No.

She’s whiny, and moany and needy. And pathetic. So pathetic. But she does what I want.

What she does makes me feel good, getting her to do whatever I want makes me feel good. Do I love her?

She says she loves me. But I don’t do anything for her, I just am.

What if she leaves me?

She won’t leave me.

But what if she does?

She won’t!

She will always be there for me. She will – Because she loves me.

But what is love? Who knows what it is? What if she realises love doesn’t exist?

I’ll lose her.

I don’t want to find someone else, I like this one. It’s easy

What if she leaves?

Should I do what she wants?

….

….

….

I know what I have to do.

“Mum…I’m home” Part 2

As some may have read before a short story I wrote, the very first one a put up on this blog. I heard a lot of good feedback, and interest in it continuing so I have continued it. If you haven’t read the first one, have a wee read before this one as it will just leave you confused.

“Mum…I’m home” By Kirsty Kell 2015©KellProductions

Jane feels herself still. Not moving and her eyes shut tight. She muster’s some courage to open one eye then the other. But nothing changes; darkness fills the space she’s in. Jane tries to listen, look and move around to find something, just something to let her know what’s going on.
The room Jane was dragged into was her own, she knows it well. Where the bed should be, where her side table is, where the dresser is. The room isn’t too big, so everything is in touching distance, but Jane can’t feel a thing. She remains close to floor, in crawling position so she doesn’t fall but her panic is overtaking her. Why can’t she feel where her dresser or bed is.
Even the floor feels different to her plump soft carpet; this feels cold and hard like stone. Jane started to contemplate that she might be dreaming. None of this is real, she fell asleep having drinking her afternoon tea in front of the telly.
“Wake up” Jane whispers to herself.

“Wake up now.” Jane says louder.
She is shocked to hear the echo of her voice. Seems so real. But it gives her a better idea of her surroundings; the echo was deep and far. She’s not in her bedroom, she’s somewhere different, somewhere that scares her.
“Just wake up! Wake up!!!” Yells Jane echoing through this empty space.
All Jane can hear is her voice, begging in the distance. But something else is there, she can faintly hear another’s voice.
“Mum!!Open the door please?! You’re scaring me”
“Shannon?”
Suddenly Jane hears a loud shriek and pushing past her that prompts her to stand up in fear.. She gets head rush standing up so quickly and everything starts to feel a bit fuzzy.
Her eyes now adjusted a little, Jane looks around her. It is her room, everything is where it is. The blinds are shut with little light creeping in but it’s her room. Jane tries to make sense of it all, hearing Shannon still banging on the door outside. Everything seemed normal.

But then, sobbing is heard. Jane is terrified to look around. It’s not over yet.
She doesn’t want to continue with this horror-some event. She doesn’t want to feel nothing but fear in her heart but deep down she knows the only way to make it stop it to look around and find out what’s going on.
Jane turns round with her eyes tight shut in the direction of the noise, then slowly opens them when she feels comfortable. She sees a young girl curled up crying in the corner.
“Hello?” Jane extends out “Who are you?”
Jane moves closer to the girl, until she starts to look familiar.
“Shannon?”
Jane’s confusion grows as she can still hear grown Shannon banging on the door downstairs.
“It can’t be?”
Jane moves closer to the girl with caution, remembering what happened last time. She is close to the girl and nothing happens but the girl continuing to cry.
“You’re not Shannon”
The cry ignores Jane’s and continues with her sobbing.
“What do you want?” Jane says “WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!” Jane yells at the being.
The girl suddenly stops crying and lifts her head. Jane takes a step back. Slowly turning her head, making a crack of every bone used, the girl finally faces Jane. \Jane is shocked and gasps in terror to see ‘Shannon’ with no eyes and no nose, just a creepy large smile.
“I want you, Mummy” says the being in a deformed Shannon voice.
Jane screams and runs for the door swinging it open. As she tries to go through it, a force pushes her back into the room throwing her in the middle of the floor.
Jane is stunned, she can’t move. She hears the girl slowly standing up with every bone cracking in unison. The girl slowly moves towards Jane, and past her. Jane is relieved a bit, maybe she’s leaving? Maybe I’ll be okay. The girl gets to the door and turns around to face Jane with her facelessness and large smile. The girl slowly closes the door, shutting out any light.
Jane is once again in the dark with little light shinning through the blinds. The girl falls to the ground. Jane is confused, and hoping that it has stopped, but with little hope that Jane had, it disappeared instantly. The girl starts to slowly crawl towards Jane with her crack of a bone in a movement. Jane is still, she can’t move or scream at the horror she is seeing. The girl continues to move slowly towards Jane, with cracking bones and nothing but a large smile for Jane to see.
Suddenly stopping halfway to Jane, something changes.

The girl stops, and laughs before launching herself at Jane, crawling fast towards her. Jane screams in fear and terror, trying to defend herself. Her eyes are shut and she screaming, pushing this thing of her. Everything else is unfocused to Jane, switched off. Jane feels a force overpowering her and pushing her down. She screams more and louder, but a voice overbears her.
“MUM! MUM!”
Jane shoots her eyes open, it’s Shannon. Real Shannon standing over her.
“What’s going on? I was calling for ages. I heard you screaming” asks Shannon
“Where is she?” cries out Jane
“The girl! The girl! She attacked me” Jane says sobbing through her words.
Jane pulls tight in Shannon’s arms crying hard. Shannon looks on at shock and doesn’t understand. Something prompts her to look around, specifically in the corner where the girl was. Shannon shocked and confused she turns to her mum

“Mum, who wrote that?”

“What?” asks Jane turning around
In the corner of the wall, in blood it reads “Mum…I’m home.”
